Governor Cox vetoed HB98

March 25, 2021

After all the time we spent yesterday in the legislative recap, turns out Governor Cox vetoed HB98 – Local Government Building Regulation Amendments, yesterday!  Wow!

Just got a call from Cam Diehl, he talked with Governor Cox yesterday before he vetoed HB98.  The thing to be aware of is that he vetoed it based on some technical concerns from FEMA and how the bill might affect the flood insurance program.  They have some fixes they would propose, and the Gov decided to veto the bill now to allow the fixes to be made and then have the bill considered again in an upcoming special session of the legislature, probably in May.  The Gov expressed his overall support for the bill, his action was only to allow the technical FEMA issues to be fixed.  So…. It will be back, likely in pretty much the same form.  It will just mean that the bill will have a later effective date.

Here’s the Gov’s letter on the veto, you can see how he expresses his overall support for the bill and hopes to just have it fixed.  :-/
