ADUs, Billboards, Voter Referendum

January 29, 2021

In yesterday’s update, we noted that the ADU bill, SB82 – Single Family Housing Modifications, has a substitute version out.  Today that bill will be heard in committee.  Here’s the committee agenda with the link to listen in if you are interested. The bill is first on the agenda, so make sure you tune in right at 2:00 pm.

In a related note, a bill was introduced in the New York State legislature in the last few days that would also make ADUs permitted uses in residential zones throughout that state.  As we’ve noted in some previous posts, this is a trend that is sweeping the nation, with several states and cities making these moves on ADUs.

Now to billboards.  Here’s an opinion piece published yesterday in the Trib in strong opposition to the industry’s billboard bill, written by a U. student in the Masters of Social Work program (not a planning student!).

Also, if you’re interested, HB23 – Voter Referendum Amendments is up for hearing today in committee at 2:00 pm as well.
