Happy New Year to Utah’s Urban Design professionals.
Many of you undoubtedly saw the announcement this week about the Salt Lake Bees moving to a new stadium in South Jordan at the end of the 2024 season. The Ballpark Community Council compiled the following summary of media coverage — from the historical and sentimental, to the impacts and community response.
Salt Lake City has announced a design competition to generate ideas for the future of the Smith’s Ballpark property after the team relocates — https://www.slc.gov/ ballparknext/. We’re working to bring discussion to Urban Design Utah in the coming months.
We did not have our regular committee business meeting this month due to the holiday last Monday. Please join us for our next program on Monday, February 6 at noon, which will look at innovative transit and community development ideas from a grassroots initiative known as the Rio Grande Plan. We look forward to hearing from this initiative’s primary authors and initiators. Watch for more information about that in the coming days.
