In response to COVID-19, and a desire by residents to responsibly walk and bike in their neighborhood while keeping a safe distance, Salt Lake City created the “Stay Safe, Stay Active” streets initiative. After conducting a survey which garnered over 6,000 responses in one week, the first street was “opened” for walking and biking. Other streets around the City have since been converted to places that allow local traffic only, and where those driving are encouraged to slow down and drive extra carefully.
