The City of Taylorsville is seeking an experienced and innovative Planner III to join our Community Development Team. SALARY RANGE: $73,774 – $128,073 DOE

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (see application link for full job description):

  • Prepares technical City Council, Planning Commission, and Board of Adjustments Staff Reports;
  • Coordinates and ensures all staff reports and agenda items are ready for Planning Commission and City Council;
  • Has working knowledge of all applications received by the City. Has responsibility for large and technically complex projects.
  • Conducts feasibility studies; prepares a variety of reports related to project progress; reviews and recommends
    updates to ordinances affecting planning, zoning, signing, traffic, development and related department areas;
    prepare and update various land use and planning maps;
  • Meets with the general public to discuss planning, zoning, and development issues; assists the public to define
    concerns and presents public questions to management;
  • Attends planning commission, citizen committees, and board of adjustment meetings regularly. As directed, attends city council meetings. Conducts all pre-application meetings and provides direction and guidance to applicants.
  • Provides technical insight and recommendations; participates in project review meetings with
    various city departments and developer representatives; identifies problem areas and provides options for
    compliance.
  • Attends various steering committees, work groups, regional planning meetings and other meetings to represent the
    City as assigned.
  • Reviews commercial and residential building permits plans and specifications to assure compliance with city zoning ordinances;
  • Conducts field inspections of completed commercial, multi-family and residential development to further verify
    compliance;
  • Performs advanced professional work related to variety of planning assignments;
  • Manages complex planning studies, development applications and review or preparation of consultant proposals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (see application link for full list of qualifications and KSAs):

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from college with a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, landscape architecture,
    public administration or a closely related field; AND Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience performing above or related duties; OR
  • Graduation from a college with a master’s degree in planning, geography, architecture, public or
    business administration or related field; AND Five (5) years of related experience and duties; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must maintain membership in the American Planning Association

AICP Certification is preferred. Must possess a valid Utah driver’s license.
