EXPLORING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN UTAH’S LANDSCAPES & WELLBEING
Courtney Flint | Utah State University
Utah’s diverse mosaic of landscapes provide a dynamic backdrop for it’s fast-growing economy. Land use decisions are complicated because of the relationship between Utah’s lands and waters and the wellbeing and objectives of stakeholders. This presentation will draw upon recent study findings that highlight values and attitudes about landscapes and waterscapes as well as measures of personal and community wellbeing across the state. It is hoped that the discussion will explore opportunities for collaboration between Utah’s planners and those who carry out USU’s land grant mission through research and community engagement.

PRESERVING COMMUNITY CHARACTER
Meg Ryan, UTAH LEAGUE OF CITIES & TOWNS
This session will take a look back before trying to project into the future. It will address the nebulous issue of “community character” and ask, “what is that” and “how do you figure that out”? We all talk about our quality of life and how it is changing, but can we do anything about it? We will explore techniques to determine what is important to your community and worth trying to preserve. It will also suggest tools that could be used for some of the common issues. Heber City in Wasatch County will be used as an example.

Each project will be presented followed by questions and answers with a panel and a short activity where participants will be able to practice techniques described in the presentations.
