Project Manager – Planning & Urban Design (7+ Years Experience)

Landmark Design is a small, award-winning landscape architecture and planning firm based in Salt Lake City. Since 1987, our firm has built a reputation for thoughtful planning, strong design, and meaningful public engagement. In addition to site design, our work includes parks and recreation master plans, general plans, land use planning, corridor and small-area plans, ordinance updates, and urban design studies for communities throughout the Intermountain West.

We are seeking a Project Manager – Planning & Urban Design to join our collaborative team. This position is intended for a mid- to senior-level professional who can manage projects from kickoff through adoption, working directly with clients and guiding internal project teams. While this position is focused on long-range planning, Landmark Design is a multidisciplinary practice rooted in landscape architecture and urban design. Our staff regularly work across planning and design projects, and we value professionals who are interested in contributing to both. Candidates with backgrounds in planning, landscape architecture, or urban design are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be a professional who enjoys both policy and design and is motivated by meaningful responsibility in a collaborative small-firm environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage long-range planning projects including general plans, parks and recreation master plans, and land use plans
  • Coordinate multiple project scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with clients
  • Lead client and team meetings, workshops, and presentations
  • Prepare long-range planning documents, including policy and implementation strategies
  • Assist with zoning and ordinance updates
  • Work collaboratively with planners and landscape architects
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff

Qualifications:

We seek candidates with strong design and communication skills, an ability to work in collaborative team settings, and familiarity with the Intermountain West. Candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding of skills in community planning and urban design, with technical skills in the following:

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of professional experience in planning, landscape architecture, urban design, or related field
  • Degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or similar discipline from an accredited institution

  • Experience preparing long-range planning documents
  • Experience leading meetings, presentations and community workshops

  • Experience interpreting data and creating maps in ArcGIS
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign

Desired Additional Skills and Qualifications

  • AICP certification and/or professional licensure in landscape architecture is a plus
  • Experience in landscape architecture, site planning and/or urban design
  • Proficiency in other design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, Rhino, CAD
  • Experience with ordinance or code writing
  • Data analysis and demographic interpretation

Why Work at Landmark Design:

Landmark Design offers the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that shape communities throughout the region. As a small firm, our staff play a direct role in both project direction and firm culture. We offer competitive salaries based on experience and qualifications, along with a strong benefits package including health insurance, paid time off and holidays, retirement contributions, and hybrid work opportunities and flexible schedules.

Our work spans planning, urban design, and landscape architecture, allowing staff to engage in a wide range of projects rather than specializing in a single niche. We value thoughtful work, professional growth, and maintaining a healthy balance between work and life. That’s why in our Salt Lake City location you’ll find many of us enjoying easy access to mountain trails and outdoor recreation when we are not in the office.
