What is our role? Are 21st-century planners wimps?
Writing in 1978, Alan Jacobs said, “Planners should be willing to stand up for their points of view if they want to be effective. They should be prepared to mix it up. They must do more than recommend” (in the Practice of Local Government Planning, 1979, p. 82). More than recommend? Should we advocate, exhort, and artfully paint the future?
