Bylaws Vote Extended!

APA Utah
Dear APA Utah Members,
The APA Utah Board has been hard at work revising our organization’s bylaws. These updates are designed to strengthen APA Utah today and prepare us for the future. Key changes include:
- Greater opportunities for member involvement in the leadership of the organization (Board of Director’s Handbook – Organizational chart).
- Clearer roles and responsibilities for the leadership team (Article V The Board).
- Increased transparency in how Board members are selected (Article V The Board).
- Updated fiscal and ethical responsibilities of the Board (Article VIII Conflict of Interest).
- A stronger foundation for growth to adapt to future needs (Board of Director’s Handbook).
- Separation of governance and policy, with high-level matters in the bylaws and flexible operational details in the Handbook.
In September, members voted on these revisions, and the amendments to the bylaws received overwhelming support—96% in favor. However, two issues in the current bylaws require us to extend the voting process:
- Technically, the vote should have been distributed to the membership by the Secretary of the board. Although it originated from the President, it was sent with the approval and support of a majority of the board, including the Secretary. We are correcting that oversight with this communication and extending the vote.
- It is specified that ballots for amending the bylaws must remain open for 30 days, and we want to ensure that all members have the opportunity to weigh in.
To address this, we are reopening the ballot from October 1 to October 30. This provides additional time to:
- Submit questions through our Comment Form.
- Review the bylaws in detail.
- Discuss them with Board members at the Fall Conference.
The ballot to vote can be found here – APA Utah Bylaws Ballot. If you already voted, you may update your vote by contacting us directly.
We deeply value your membership and commitment to APA Utah. Our goal is to build an organization that better supports you, advances the planning profession, and reflects the voices of all members.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or feedback—we look forward to connecting with you at the Fall Conference and continuing this important conversation.
Thank you for your engagement and support.
David Rodgers – Secretary of APA Utah
