Kate Sattelmeier

Kate graduated from the University of Tasmania, Australia with a combined bachelor of Arts/Laws degree, attended the University of Utah as a visiting student and was admitted to the Utah State Bar in 2001. Her career has been focused on real estate law and previous experience includes work in the fields of commercial real estate development, homeowner associations, residential land transactions, real estate financing, land use issues and work as a Hearing Officer for the Salt Lake County Board of Equalization. Kate has worked with the Summit Land Conservancy since 2010 and moved to her current role as VP of Conservation and Counsel in 2022. In her time at the Conservancy, Kate has managed the stewardship of existing conservation easement properties and new property acquisitions. She has worked extensively to raise local government, state and federal funds for acquisitions and is a member of the Land Trust Alliance – NRCS Agricultural Land Easement working group. Kate was a member of the faculty at the National Land Trust Alliance Conference in 2016, and a presenter at the Weber River Symposium and continuing legal education events for the Wasatch County Bar Association and University of Utah.

In this session we will explore the key elements of conservation easements and how they can intersect with community planning. Come learn about conservation easement enforcement and stewardship and how these easements compare with other land protection tools. Working together, land trusts and community planners can better serve their communities by using conservation easements.
