APA Utah Fall Conference Speaker

Dane Sanders

Dane Sanders is a lighting designer and engineer who is committed to responsible lighting design. Dane has developed street and outdoor lighting master plans, outdoor lighting ordinances, and contributes to lighting research, lighting education, and public speaking. His recent master planning work includes dark-sky outdoor lighting ordinances for Aspen, Pitkin County, Ft. Collins as well as Street Lighting Master Plans in Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake, Austin, and Santa Ana, all of which include community engagement strategies to develop goals for equitable and responsible lighting. Dane received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering, with an emphasis in Illumination from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. Dane is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Colorado Illumination Engineering Program and conferences such as Greenbuild, Light Fair, IES Mexico, and IES Annual Conference.

2025 APA UT Spring Conference, May 7, 2025 8:00 pm

This evening tour will showcase shielded and customized light fixtures designed to minimize light pollution on the Utah State University (USU) campus. In partnership with USU's Planning and Sustainability Department, the tour will highlight best practices for night sky-friendly lighting and demonstrate practical applications of these fixtures. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with panel participants from the earlier conference session.
