David Brems

David Brems has dedicated his career to advancing sustainable design and environmental responsibility in architecture. A graduate of the University of Utah, David has influenced the profession through innovative projects, including early passive solar homes and large-scale energy-efficient buildings. As a founding principal of GSBS Architects, he has led the design of numerous LEED-certified buildings and helped shape sustainable guidelines for the 2002 Winter Olympics. David has served as Chair of the AIA Committee on Design and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Utah, sharing his expertise in daylighting and net-zero design. His work continues to set benchmarks for resilient and high-performance architecture. He is a Councilmember for the Emigration Canyon Council and played a key role in the community’s dark sky ordinance adoption process.

2025 APA UT Spring Conference, May 7, 2025 8:00 pm

This evening tour will showcase shielded and customized light fixtures designed to minimize light pollution on the Utah State University (USU) campus. In partnership with USU's Planning and Sustainability Department, the tour will highlight best practices for night sky-friendly lighting and demonstrate practical applications of these fixtures. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with panel participants from the earlier conference session.
