Session Description:

Planning strategically on how to use CARES funding can help cities account for and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. From small area plans for areas affected by COVID-related losses to financial sustainability models to public engagement tools, join in to hear a few examples of what can/should be done with the funding and learn about practical next steps for implementation. This interactive webinar will utilize polling features and provide real time results regarding how current cities are spending their CARES money, discuss regional CARES resources that are forthcoming, and then conclude with a moderated question and answer period.

Speakers/Bios:

Scott Hess:

Scott Hess is the Director of Community and Economic Development for Wasatch Front Regional Council. His role is to administer the Wasatch Front Economic Development District to further regional economic development activities, leverage funding opportunities, and implement local plans. He brings over ten years of experience in various Planning roles. Most recently he worked as the Planning Department Manager for Clearfield City with prior work as Davis County Planner. He holds a B.S. in Urban Planning and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Utah.

Benj Becker:

For the past 18 years, Benj has specialized in real estate consulting and advisory services. He previously was involved with more than $7.0 billion in transactions of commercial real estate in the San Francisco Bay Area and has worked in the past several years on numerous projects in the intermountain region. His expertise includes in-depth consulting for highest and best use analyses, development feasibility studies, land development, rent arbitrations, value-add of transportation, and land use planning issues.
