Behind the Scenes at UDOT: Planning, Traffic Operations, and the Technology Behind Utah’s

Planning transportation systems doesn’t end when a project is built. Join UDOT planners for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how planning, operations, and technology work together to keep Utah moving. The session begins with an overview of UDOT’s planning program and how statewide transportation planning supports community growth, mobility, and long-range investment decisions. Participants will then tour the UDOT Traffic Operations Center (TOC), where staff monitor traffic conditions, coordinate incident response, manage roadway technology, and support travelers across the state.

The tour will feature demonstrations and presentations from several UDOT teams, with opportunities to learn about incident management, weather operations, connected and automated vehicle technology, traffic signal systems, LiDAR applications, fiber optic infrastructure, and other technologies that support Utah’s transportation network. This unique mobile session offers planners an inside look at how planning decisions connect to day-to-day transportation operations and emerging technologies.
