As planners increasingly embrace digital tools, understanding the workings behind the web has become crucial. Just as “Code is the new concrete,” planners who understand the “infrastructure” of websites can more effectively engage with digital platforms to serve their communities.

In recent years, many cities have begun to recognize the value of sustaining LGBTQ+ historic and cultural sites within the broader urban fabric. Traditional preservation tools such as historic context statements, city landmarks, and cultural resource surveys can ensure such sites are protected. Innovative concepts such as cultural districts can help drive municipal projects.

Healthy food walk audits provide a dynamic way to assess the food landscape in neighborhoods, evaluating availability, proximity, routes, and infrastructure needs. *Must be an APA UT member to attend.

This session will introduce planners to the fundamentals of AI, the ethical implications of using AI in local government. *Must be an APA UT member to attend.

MI’s Child Care Readiness Toolkit which guides municipalities to better integrate child care into planning efforts, zoning codes, economic development strategies, and local policies and procedures, to become more child care ready.

We encourage proposals from all planners and all subject matters. While we are still finalizing the theme for the spring conference, we aim to emphasize the balance between embracing change and honoring our heritage. Given Cache County’s strong agricultural roots, we hope to see some sessions align with this theme as well.

Join APA UT’s Planning Commission Chair and other experts for a monthly online networking, discussion, and problem-solving Session. This will be help on the first Monday of each month at noon. 

What is planning’s relationship to design? In this lecture, I will argue for the necessity and efficacy of urban planning as a form of “strategic design”, moving past traditional design’s focus on discrete solutions — be it a building or a landscape — but borrowing traditional design’s principles and methods to tackle systemic challenges like inequality, unaffordable housing, and climate change. CM Available

The annual spring conference of APA makes its way to Cache Valley in 2025, May 7-9 at the Riverwoods Conference Center in Logan.   Call for Sessions Help shape APA Utah’s 2025 Spring Conference by submitting your session.
