Hello APAUT,
I am a recent graduate from Western Washington University’s Urban Planning & Sustainable Development Program.
During my time working on the program and my internship within the State of Washington, I became quite familiar with the regulation structure that counties and municipalities have to adhere to in order to comply with state level land use, housing, environmental, transportation and other goals outlined in our “Growth Management Act” (GMA) which was signed into law in 1990.
I am curious about what regulations have similar impacts on the various levels of planning departments in the state of Utah. What would any planner educated and working in Utah know about long range and short term planning process that would not be known to someone educated out-of-state? Is there state level legislation that plays a similar role to Washington States GMA? What are the opinions from APAUT members and the public about these regulations?
As a young planner who will be living in Utah come Fall, advise that would help me become proficient in Utah’s Planning structure is extremely valuable to me. Thank you!.
