Participate in a Housing Development Training
One of the biggest challenges facing local leaders is properly addressing growth in our communities. We must look at the housing needs for both current and future residents. ULCT and our partners invite you to participate in a day-long training event to learn first-hand about the trade-offs and risks in urban development.
Learn Urban Planning with Legos
ULI’s UrbanPlan for Public Officials is an opportunity to participate in a realistic exercise to learn the fundamental forces that affect development in our communities. It’s an ideal way for local decision makers to learn more about the market forces that shape and impact the built environment and the leadership roles that local leaders plan in the real estate development process.
UrbanPlan for Public Officials is a day-long training using legos, a site plan, and a spreadsheet to respond to a fictional RFP for a neighborhood. Teams must decide how dense to build a 5 1/2 block area, whether to keep or move a homeless shelter, what type of retail is appropriate, and which neighborhood groups to keep happy all while meeting the financial projections of the city and the developer. The day ends with teams presenting to a mock city council.
This training also qualifies for the 3 hour required training for planning commissioners under Utah State Law.
