Transportation Project Manager – Emerging Area

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a transportation planner to define and implement an emerging area planning support program in the fast-growing, non-metropolitan areas of the state. You will be the contact point for well-defined, coordinated, and collaborative planning processes and supporting activities that will provide better representation of these high-growth areas in corridor studies, grant opportunities and the long-range planning process. This effort will provide an organized and comprehensive approach to transportation planning and supporting activities such as public engagement, long-range planning and travel demand modeling and will inform both the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan as well as regional and local planning processes. You will support the key components of the planning process including understanding the context of the area, public outreach and engagement, data collection and analysis, and development or refinement of specific tools so that data can inform transportation decision-making.

Principle Duties

As the Transportation Project Manager – Emerging Areas, you will:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for Emerging Area planning efforts including outreach and engagement.
  • Coordinate with and support the Long Range Planning team in incorporating emerging area planning efforts in the LRP process.
  • Coordinate with the travel demand modeling and GIS group on emerging area planning efforts.
  • Coordinate with the active transportation group on emerging area planning efforts.
  • Actively coordinate solutions development processes, technical planning assistance and emerging area planning efforts.
  • Lead the development of consistent processes related to emerging area planning.

The Ideal Candidate

The best person for this position will have a Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in planning or another related field

  • Position is eligible for telework
  • Working Conditions – Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Physical Requirements – Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
