Senior Planner

JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Planner manages some of Park City’s highest profile and most exciting land use and development initiatives, including ski resort development, annexations, affordable housing, Land Management Code amendments, and long-range planning initiatives. The Senior Planner helps guide Park City’s future growth and development, and works with government officials, developers, and community members in a fast-paced environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

-Provides team expertise regarding the City’s General Plan and Land Management Code, and assists in its application to business licenses, building permits, master planned developments, annexations, conditional use permits, subdivisions/plats, historic preservation, and other planning projects.

-Thoroughly analyzes and prepares professional reports for presentation to the public, Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Board, Board of Adjustment, and City Council.

-Provides leadership over complex development applications, mentors team members, and reviews Planning Department staff reports to ensure quality review and professional presentations.

-Performs comprehensive technical analysis and assistance pertaining to land use and planning applications.

-Monitors land development, related ordinances, and maintains records outlining land use application progress, daily activity logs, and other pertinent records and reports.

-Coordinates with community members and stakeholders to facilitate public engagement for neighborhood planning initiatives and small area plans.

-Collaborates with Building, Engineering, Transportation, Transit, Housing, Sustainability, Water, Public Works, and Special Events to inform and provide professional application review and recommendations; helps support the creation of public policies, programs, and organizational initiatives.

-Provides updates to the media, including regular local radio and newspaper interviews.

-Monitors development activity in the region and promotes intergovernmental coordination with Summit and Wasatch Counties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as planning, architecture, and landscape architecture.

-3 years of increasing responsibility and planning experience with both complex projects and long-range planning.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-Master’s degree in a related field such as planning, architecture, and landscape architecture.

-Experience in resort-related planning, sustainable/environmental planning, and long-range planning.

-Computer literacy in AutoCad, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite 3, Sketch-Up, or similar.

-American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

-American Planning Association (APA) member or affiliation.
