Utah Land Use Institute Fall Conference

The Fall Conference of the Utah Land Use Institute is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday October 25-26, 2022 at the Realtors Auditorium in Sandy.

Two major issues facing Utah will be our focus: (1) Water and (2) Growth – the Utah Way?

Our Tuesday session will focus on Water – new requirements for local water planning, moratoria on development, pending water legislation, the future of the Great Salt Lake, and other related topics.

We are pleased to announce that our plenary sessions on Wednesday morning will focus on growth, generally under the topic “What is it About California that Utah Will Not Become?”.  As we grow, we continually hear the concern that we “don’t want to become like California”.  What does that mean?  What are we specifically trying to avoid and how do we plan to do that?

Our distinguished speakers will include national expert on planning and the economics of growth Arthur C. “Chris” Nelson; William Fulton, former mayor of Ventura, Californiaand Planning Director for the City of San Diego; and Utah leaders on a panel moderated by Doug Wilks, Editor of the Deseret News.  Doug Wilks will also moderate a second panel of local government leaders who will speak along the same theme, including time for audience participation and questions.

Break out sessions will include Housing Affordability, New Financing Methods for Infrastructure, Housing Innovations, Public “Overparticipation”?, Homebuilders – What are They Thinking Now?, and other topics.

Save the Date!  See you October 25-26, 2022 in Sandy!
