Embracing the Mutha River: An Urban Design Study of Sustainable Futures: 2020 urban design studio in Utah embraced an international collaboration with a university in India focusing on the health of Pune and the Mutha River.
Category: Special Recognition/Other
Award: Merit
Nominated: Caroline Lavoie
Summary: This real-time collaboration included 55 Indian students from 4 different departments (digital architecture, environmental architecture, landscape architecture, and architecture) joining forces with 27 students from Utah to focus on a project inventory, analysis and design for eight districts encompassing 1,000 acres at the core of the City of Pune. The most significant natural feature in Pune is the Mutha River originating in the Mountains to the west, passing through the metropolitan area (6.8M residents), flowing out onto the Mutha plain. Pune’s future must reconcile its future growth with the health of this river.
